Andre’s Lakeside Dining: Fine Dining on Seneca Lake

André and Tracey deWaal opened their first dining room in Newton in 1998 and spent seventeen years earning a reputation there before the move that gave the restaurant its name. Since 2015, Andre’s Lakeside Dining has occupied a quiet spot at the end of Tomahawk Trail in Sparta, with windows and a covered patio facing straight across Seneca Lake. A Menu That Changes Monthly

Chef André cooks French technique with global accents, and he rewrites the menu every month around what the season offers. One visit might bring seared duck or handmade pasta, the next a swordfish with Asian-inspired flavors; regulars learn not to get attached. Tasting menus run alongside the à la carte list, and the kitchen accommodates dietary restrictions and allergies when you note them with your reservation. Andre’s is BYOB, so bring the bottle you’ve been saving; a short list of wines is on hand if you forget. Reservations are required, and the room is small enough that they mean it.

Cooking Classes, Micro Weddings, and the Lakeside Tent

Dinner is only half the operation. In late winter, Wednesdays go to hands-on cooking classes for cooks of all skill levels. Sundays are held for private events: micro weddings, showers, rehearsal dinners, and corporate gatherings. An upstairs room seats about twenty, and a lakeside tent handles parties of up to fifty with the water as the backdrop, which keeps Andre’s on the short list of intimate wedding and event venues in Sussex County.

Planning Your Visit

Dinner runs Wednesday through Saturday, 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and the restaurant closes each January for a winter break (it reopened February 12 this year). Dining spreads across two floors, so mention it when booking if stairs are a concern for anyone in your party. The patio is the seat to ask for in warmer months, and the drive out makes Andre’s a natural anchor for an evening in Sparta.
